Kerala Set Mundu with 4 inch kasavu pallu for women

Set mundu is a traditional dress worn by Kerala women. Set mundu is worn with a blouse. This set mundu has brocade along the edges known as ‘kasavu’. Sometimes this golden brocade is laced with ordinary cotton thread of contrasting bright colours known as ‘kasavu kara’(border). Usually, set mundu with ‘kasavu’ used to be worn by people on ceremonial occasions. In normal occasions, women wear ‘mundu’ without ‘kasavu’. These are less expensive than the ones with kasavu. Usually the kasavu in the pallu part will be an inch and half thicker than the kasavu border. Now a days the wearing of traditional dresses are limited to certain occasions like Onam, birthday, marriage functions and celebrations like new year etc.
